Twelve year old, skinny Chris Anderson is a mischievous combination of incurably curious and smart.
When Chris was run off the Texas county road, bicycle flying down the embankment, he noticed an old closed road.
He explored the old road, not sure if he heard whispering voices or just his runaway imagination. Then he discovered an old farmhouse abandoned in 1929; the furniture, clothing, food in the pantry all intact.
He grew obsessed, researching maps and history of the area to find out what could've happened. His nights bounced between frantic insomnia and ghosts pervading his dreams. He became increasingly agitated with school and home life, as if his secret were about to explode. To release his stress he played practical jokes on his big brother Kyle. This sometimes got him beat up. His mother’s wacky "foreign" cuisine and his dad’s corny 1970’s jokes are light and humorous distractions. When the secret becomes too big for him to handle, he reluctantly accepts the assistance of Jessica, his classmate since kindergarten. Their fast-paced adventure swings from fun to horror to amazement. Are the ghosts real? Do twelve year olds have over-active imaginations? And yes, of course, there's a twist that you didn't see coming!
